From Geneva Agreement on Vietnam (1954) till Vietnam today
20th July 1954: Geneva Agreement on Vietnam and Vietnam divided into two parts: Democratic republic of Viet Nam (in the North) by Ho Chi Minh who was a Chairman, and South Vietnam by Bao Dai who was a leader of south Viet nam
About 1956: Ngo Dinh Diem from USA came back to Viet Nam and became a first President of the first republic of south Vietnam.
1957: Backed by North Vietnam, Communist guerrillas called the viet cong began to rebel against the South Vietnamese Government.
June 1963, A Vietnamese Buddhist monk Quang Duc burned himself to death in an act of protest against the Diem Government.Constituting a majority of the country's population, Buddhists in viet nam accused the Diem Government of religious discrimination.
November, 1st 1963: Overthrow a state in South Vietnam and Ngo Dinh Diem was killed.
After that Duong Van Minh ; Nguyen Khanh ; Phan Khac Suu ; Phan Huy Quach ; Nguyen Cao Ky Leaded the South Viet Nam in 6 months
Then
Nguyen Van Thieu became a second President of the second republic of South Viet nam
1965 United States forces landed at Danang and began fighting in Vietnam.
September, 2nd 1969 : Ho Chi Minh died.
1973: The United Syates ended its military in volvenment in the Vietnam war.
March 1975: Tran Van Huong became President in 7 days , then Duong Van Minh in 2 days
April 30,1975: South Vietnam surrendered to Northern forces. Thousands of Vietnamese began fleeing the country.
1976: North and South Vietnam were unified under a Communist government.Saigon were renamed Ho Chi Minh city.
1978: Vietnam invaded Cambodia and removed the Khmer Rouge government.
January 10, 1979: Vietnam recognizes the Kampuchean People's Revolutionary council.
Feb/17-March/05/1979: Chinese attack against Vietnam along the length of its border(1,600 km) Beijing withdraws its troops from Vietnam.
1989: Vietnam claimed to have withdrawn all of its forces from Cambodia.
1990s : Economic reforms encouraging limited private enterprise and foreign investment were instituted.
1994: The United States ended its long-standing trade embargo with Vietnam.In return, Vietnam offered increased cooperation in providing information about soldiers killed or missing in the Vietnam War.
